About

Hi, I’m Katherine, the owner of Creative Business Journey. With a background in finance and years of experience running my own handmade business, I’m combining my skills to create practical tools that help small business owners who are starting their own creative business journey, streamline their finances and grow with confidence.
I’ve been running an online handmade business for nearly ten years now, initially selling on Etsy, expanding to Amazon and then setting up my own website. I found that my accountancy training really helped me with getting started and creating a profitable business, as well with managing my business finances. However I know that for many small business owners, this is often their least favourite aspect of running their business and that gave me the idea of creating tools such as spreadsheets coupled with step-by-step guides to take the pain out of the process.
My Mission: To Help Small Businesses Succeed
It’s a huge learning curve starting a small business and I want to help others who are near the beginning of that journey by sharing some of my knowledge. I hope that my blog will become a really useful resource for entrepreneurs and over the coming months I plan to build up a collection of informative articles. Sign up to my mailing list at the bottom of this page to never miss a post and also receive a free weekly roundup of e-commerce news.
I’m passionate about small business and creativity, especially in the current climate when it feels like it’s very hard to succeed unless you are a big corporation. Solopreneurs have to do every job within the business themselves, including those that are not their speciality. I want to provide the tools to help with the numbers side of the business. A big problem I had when I first started was that the reports available to export from Etsy were extremely complicated and not self-explanatory. Years later, if anything they have got worse! Over the years I have built spreadsheet templates that I use myself in my business that I can paste the data from Etsy into and the spreadsheet will make sense of it. I hope these will be a really helpful tool for other Etsy sellers as well as helping to make sense of business finances in general.
In the meantime I’d love to hear from small business owners and the problems they need solutions for. Please get in touch on the contact form to say hello or share your problems and I’ll see what I can do to help.
